About Maty

After excelling at art in high school and going on to study architecture, New Zealand-born Maty soon decided he preferred to make things in wood, with his own hands. 

Inadvertently following in the footsteps of his father and English forbears, he went on to complete a cabinetmaking apprenticeship with a long-established Brisbane furniture maker. 

Maty's career has variously combined design, architecture and his cabinetry skills – from managing the Architecture workshops at the University of Queensland and the University of Newcastle to TAFE teaching and even super-yacht fit-outs. He knew when it was time to follow the call of his muse though, and the Leaf was born...
